From Mon. 25 November 2013 to Wed. 27 November 2013, Conference “Towards a Laboratory Network for Improved Diagnosis in Lao PDR”

In various developing countries, medical biology laboratories are considered as an unnecessary accessory to the health system with their role of clinical support being largely unknown and exploited. Those infrastructures are often insufficient with lack of equipment. As a result, the role of the laboratories can be misunderstood, especially, their key role for epidemiologic surveillance of infectious diseases. Therefore, patients neglect to attend the biological examinations that are essential in the process of disease diagnosis. However, biological diagnosis allows improved therapeutic care thanks to a better adapted treatment.

The Centre d’Infectiologie Christophe Mérieux du Laos (CICML) will host a first conference on the strengthening of laboratory capacities in the field of medical biology diagnosis thanks to networking and sharing of knowledge. It will be a unique occasion to review the state of the art for network activities and diagnosis of challenging infectious diseases.

It will take place from 25-27 November 2013 in the conference room of CICML.
This conference is addressed to health professionals (laboratory staff and clinicians) from different Provinces of Laos, to develop their knowledge and skills in laboratory activities. It is supported by WHO, European Union, région Rhône-Alpes, Fondation AnBer and Fondation Mérieux.
